Displaced persons
Armed conflicts, natural disasters, violence or economic hardship: there are many reasons why people choose displacement and migration. The SRC works in partnership with local Red Cross societies to provide support and protection. We help refugees and people displaced within their own country, along migration routes and on their arrival in the host country.
Challenges
All over the world, more and more people are forced from their homes. They travel along dangerous routes over land and sea, exposing themselves to great risks and other difficulties. Many suffer abuse and exploitation as they either do not know their rights or are unable to stand up for themselves. The language barrier is often an additional hurdle.
Our goal
It is the Red Cross mission to ensure displaced persons enjoy safety and dignity. We ensure they have access to food, water, hygiene, shelter and medical care.
We help them integrate into society and encourage their participation in working life and society in their host country.
We also inform refugees of their rights and helps ensure these rights are upheld by intervening with the local authorities.

What we do
The SRC works with the national Red Cross societies in over 10 countries to help displaced people, covering their immediate needs and helping them integrate into their host communities. This can involve refugees or internally displaced persons.
We adapt our work and deployment zones to whatever is currently most needed. For example, we provide humanitarian aid along the migration routes through the Balkans. In Asia, we provide aid for Myanmar refugees living in the Cox's Bazar camps in Bangladesh. In Africa, we help people driven from their homes by the conflict in Sudan. And in Latin America, we provide assistance for migrants who have been deported back to their home countries.
