Our Programme Countries
In 2024, the SRC collaborated with National Societies in 39 countries. The World Map gives an overview of the content of the collaboration in country programmes by listing the thematic priorities. Additional to the 39 programme countries, there are two regional migration programmes and one regional NSD programme.
The countries included in the migration programme in the Balkans are North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia and Bulgaria. Countries included in the migration programme in Central America are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. Countries included in the regional NSD programme in Central Asia are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
Floods, storms, earthquakes, epidemic cholera and man-made disasters triggered emergency response in many of the 39 depicted countries as well as in Brazil, the Caribbean island St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Philippines, Vietnam, Morocco, the Middle East including Gaza, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Our Finances
In 2024, the Swiss Red Cross’ (SRC) activities in development cooperation and emergency response were again on a high level, but significantly below the historic high of 58 million CHF in the prior year. The war in Ukraine is still at the center of attention of our activities, with a volume of nearly 11 million CHF. The escalation of violence in the Middle East region has created a very high level of human suffering and thus a significant response by the SRC but has not triggered a corresponding amount of donor interest. Moreover, the SRC has responded to complex emergencies in Haiti, Sudan or Ethiopia. 2024 has also been marked by a extraordinary amount of flooding incidents in several regions worldwide, with SRC responding in the Caribbean, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh or South Sudan.
One of the SRCs goal is to strengthen the National Society in the capacity to respond to the needs of their society. The activities in the development of the National Societies (NSD) increased while other thematic priorites created less volume. This trend emphasises our decision to implement projects exclusively via the local Red Cross / Red Crescent National Society for more sustainable results and less administrative costs on a long run. Mandates relate to one onging project, that the SRC and the National Society implement on behalf of the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).
The income from fundraising and donations has decreased due to less interest in emergency response appeals. Our institutional partners once again supported the SRC with reliable contributions. Unfortunately there will be important cuts from our donors for 2025 of 2,6 million CHF in core and programme contributions for long term programmes and projects and 1,5 million CHF reduction of the contribution for emergencies.
