Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement

‘The International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.’

The individual National Societies are independent of each other and free. Their role is always first and foremost national. If, in the event of a crisis, war or natural disasters the individual National Societies can no longer cope alone, they are supported by the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies and the ICRC in a spirit of solidarity. However, they nevertheless remain the leading Red Cross or Red Crescent Society in their country.
